The Dances of Universal Peace and Walking Meditations are spiritual practice in motion. Drawing on the sacred phrases, scripture, and poetry of the many spiritual traditions of the earth, the Dances blend chant, live music and evocative movement into a living experience of unity, peace and integration. This taste of our true nature - as Universal Peace - opens the possibility of a deep spiritual revolution within the person. The Dances are practiced in 58 countries around the world.
Susan Slack has been leading the Dances for over 35 years. She was Certified by Dr. Neil Douglas-Klotz over 25 years ago. She is currently mentored by Taznim Fernandez, co-founder of the Dances of Universal Peace Network. Susan has been designated as a Senior Mentor, meaning that she is authorized to teach others the lead the dances working toward Certification if desired.

The Fall Equinox is a day of perfect balance, with even hours of day and night. As external light recedes, we begin to turn within for that light which is truth beyond what we can see. Through the ages many cultures acknowledge this meaningful time with holidays and festivals honoring the ancestors, harvest celebrations and preparation for the approaching season with the memory of this perfect balance and awareness of the cycles of nature and our lives.
The Dances of Universal Peace is a practice that help us realize this balance with interactive movement and chanting of sacred phrases from world traditions, taught patiently before each Dance. You are invited listen and participate in the sound of the sacred phrase, to breathe together while we walk/dance in a circle. Often called moving meditation, musical tai chi or moving kirtan, live musicians will lovingly guide your steps.
This ancient and natural tradition has been practiced among most cultures since the beginning of civilizations. There is very little to learn except to relax and enjoy singing and swaying with others. This is less about being good singer or accomplished dancer, and more about joining in the human custom of spiritual community celebration and ceremony. It offers brain health, emotional well being, deep meditation, social interaction and somatic body language awareness.
These Dances are practiced around the globe and under this name, have existed since the 1960s. (www.dancesofuniversalpeace.org) All combined, Dances of Universal Peace provides an opportunity for healing and creation of spiritual light for ourselves and our Universe.
